KNS Digital Archive Day 10

December 8, 2008

Finalized all documents: finding aid in Word document, metadata in Excel spreadsheet, items in PDF but also in original form RTFs or TIFFs.  Saved work on flash drive and library server.  Wrote description for potential spring internship:

The KNS Digital Archive Spring Internship 2009 will continue the work started by a Simmons Student and Mason Library employees during the Fall 2008 semester.  The student will be responsible for starting series II of the Keene Normal School collection, which begins after the planning years at the 1910 commencement.  The finding aid will be developed by series using EAD standards for ingestion into DigiTool.
Materials will be supplied by the Special Collections Librarian.  The student will created TIFs or RTFs for scanned documents and transcribed documents, respectively. Each item will receive a record number and all file names will correspond. The record number will identify the items in the finding aid.  Finished materials will be used for the Keene State College Centennial Celebration during 2009.

KNS Digital Archive Day 8

December 1, 2008

Developed finding aid more.  Followed format from other finding aids used at KSC.  Wrote biographical note:

The Keene Normal School was brought into legislation over three years prior to the opening ceremony in 1909. Superintendent of Schools reports in 1906 state the demand for more teachers’ colleges in New Hampshire. Through the arrangements of land and staff, the school was opened with three years of planning in 1909. The first commencement ceremony was held in 1910.

Still not sure how to include the reference of using Striving, a book about the history of KSC by James G. Smart,  for historical information.
