May 1, 2009

Come out this weekend and see the men’s and women’s roller derby double header in Enfield – it’s only 30 minutes away!

And check us out here too:
Pioneer Valley Roller Derby is back in action!

Here’s a skater update on “Surly Mental” #56 on Western Mass Destruction:

Final projects are due in my second semester of graduate studies in library science and archives management, so I had to take a week off from derby :(  Since January I have been attending the skill training practice on Wednesday nights and the endurance practice on Monday nights.  When class is over next week I’ll be able to start attending scrimmage practice – the next step to getting on the roster! (Which would mean playing instead of watching – where I really want to be.) I’ve always like playing sports more than counting scores and stats.

SO come see the team play – and soon enough I’ll be rough n’ tumbling with them too!

Stuff I like E03

Mmmm cozy.

Mmmm cozy.

Slippers. Especially slippers that feel like fluffy new towels wrapped around my feet. Extra plus: machine washable.

Here are some things I’ve been looking at lately:

Rusted Root live music archive – archive.org

Just watched episodes 1-5 in the third season of Dexter.

Is anyone else watching this new season of Southpark? I hope so… As a girl, the episode where Wendy beats the cr*p out of Cartman is probably my favorite so far.

Teapots with infusers – I totally need at least a 4 cup one of these, with a locking lid for pouring and dishwasher safe.  I’m torn between porcelain and metal – however I think in the long run the porcelain will taste better!

Its orange and has organic cotton and fleece!

Orange organic cotton and fleece!

I imagine myself wearing this hoodie from She-Bible and being oh so cozy. At this point it’s over 50% off and I have a really hard time turning down such a comfy looking piece of USA small business merch.

I’ve been a committed Fluevogger since I was 15; I bought my first Angels at Zanna in Amherst. The sole of the shoe really hooked me, as it read: “The Seventh Heaven Angel sole is a 50% Latex and 50% Rubber combination sole that resists Alkali, Water, Acid, Fatigue and Satan”. I knew this was just what I was going to need on my feet for years to come. I think after about five years I replaced the soles, but the Angels are my one and only when it comes to black boots. When I got to the point when I wanted to free my ankles, I found the oxford style Angels on sale and added to the family. These got a lot of wear at community college; I was the newspaper and literary mag editor taking art classes and majoring in Communication.

It took me a while to realized I have a thing for nice shoes.

I have a thing for classy leather shoes.

Now I’m looking at sitting at a desk a lot of the time, and having to look older than just a college kid. If I’m going to wear skirts and act tall I’m going to want the shoes to do it with. Hence, Tillie. A little while ago there was a Mini Lily Darling in a rust colored tan with black edging, but it has gone. Again, the Tillie is over 50% but still a $75 purchase so it’s not something I really want to do on a whim. ^_^
